How to Organize a Great Vacation

Here at Slots Play Casinos we have often encouraged gamers to play at a good online casino.  We have recommended over 30 such online casinos.  One of them is Jackpot Capital, and Jackpot Capital has been running a promotion with their 70ish heroine, Glamma, called Glamma’s Adventures, for over a year.

The great significance of the Glamma’s Adventures promotion is that it clearly shows that paying to get to and stay at a land-based casino is not the best use of that money.  Better to take what we have called a “real vacation”.

What is a Real Vacation?

The answer is simply “whatever you decide is a real vacation”.  This is not a cop out.  There are innumerable different types of real vacations for the millions of people who are at this moment contemplating taking a vacation.  Here is a very short list of possible real vacations:

  1. Going to a local big city.
  2. Going to a local rural area.
  3. Going to the mountains.
  4. Going to the ocean, lake, or sea.
  5. Road trip.
  6. Hiking.
  7. Small town trips.
  8. Ethnic enclaves.
  9. Local arts.

A Few Preliminary Comments

We listed going to local areas.  This is in order to save travelling costs.  The onerous travelling costs are one of the many reasons we support online casino gaming over land-based casino gaming.  So, here we are talking about saving flying costs.

People who live near a large body of water often choose to go to the mountains.  People who live in or near mountains often choose to go to a large body of water.

Road trips used to be a favorite way to go.  Now, as the price of gasoline is falling, we think that road trips might come back into style.  Road trips go hand in hand with small-town trips.  They also go with hiking trips.

Ethnic enclaves would be the Amish communities and local ethnic communities such as African-American, Native American, Scandinavian communities, and so on.

Some people like art museums.  Local art museums are much different than the famous big city art museums.  They feature local artists and are interesting for the quality of art in small communities.

New York City, Midwestern Small Towns, Utah

With the limited space we have, we will offer tips for a short vacation in New York City for people who live within easy driving distance of the city, a trip to some small towns in the heartland, and the National Parks in Utah and the area.

Amazing and Fascinating New York City

Instead of flying from afar to New York City, you can go by train or bus.  We also suggest renting a car and returning it as soon as you get to the city, since parking in New York is both hard to find and very expensive.

Doing a lot of research is important for any kind of vacation, but there is so much to see and do in New York that coming prepared is even more important.  The internet is loaded with travel sites that will help you decide an itinerary for New York.

We would go so far as to decide in advance where you would like to eat dinner.  This will save time in the long run.

We recommend staying away from the subway after dark unless it is still the evening rush hour.  Better to take a taxi than to have a dangerous encounter in the subway.  We also recommend that you bring good walking shoes and be prepared to walk a lot.  Manhattan is big but it isn’t THAT big!

Even if you are a big sports fan, we suggest not going to a professional sports event in New York.  Better to skate outdoors in a small park such as Bryant Park.

Small Towns in the Midwest

The Midwest is dotted with beautiful small towns.  The local people are generally very open.  These towns have charm that is hard to describe, as they aren’t especially touristy areas.  Walking in or near a midwestern small town can be a phenomenal weekend excursion.

Unlike the parking situation in New York, if you take a road trip in the Midwest, you can use your own car!

One area we have enjoyed is minor league baseball in the Midwest.  There is a league, called the Midwest League, with many teams.  In many cases, you will be on or near the grand Mississippi River.  In addition to the Midwest League, there are college summer leagues.  Watching minor league baseball in a midwestern setting is a great way to relax and enjoy baseball.

Concessions are way cheaper than at any major league city, where watery beer might be $15 or more!  Midwestern stadium concessions feature sausages that came with the ethnic groups that settled the Midwest.

There are quite literally hundreds of small lakes that feature boating and swimming, plus many state parks for hiking and bird watching.  The Horicon Marsh Wildlife Area features migrating birds and some birds that live there.  With 33,000 acres of wetland, the marsh offers a great hour or longer rest on the way to or from somewhere else.

The National Parks of Utah are a Hop, Skip, and a Jump from Las Vegas

Here is an interesting situation.  Accommodations in Las Vegas can be very inexpensive.  So, as a jumping-off point, Vegas has much to offer.  As long as you keep your gambling to as close to zero as possible!

Bryce Canyon, Zion, Canyonlands, Arches and So Much More

All of these parks get really hot in the summer, but are super great destinations in the other seasons.  Zion is only a two-hour drive from Las Vegas.  Zion has deep canyons, waterfalls, a water hike, and much more.  Start here and be prepared for a full and exhausting day.

Bryce is very close to Zion.  Its main feature is the red limestone spires that the locals named hoodoos back in the 19th century.  There is a trail through the hoodoos.

These two national parks can take up a day in themselves.  The other parks in Utah are Canyonlands, Arches, and Capitol Reef.  They feature desert, sandstones, and natural canyons carved out by the Colorado River.

The grandest canyon carved out by the Colorado River is, of course, the Grand Canyon, which is just a short drive to the south.  The drive down towards the Grand Canyon offers amazing views as you go down.

Visit Tuahcahn

Tuacahn is an outdoor theater a little north of St. George, Utah, which is in the most southwestern corner of the state.  Tuacahn features Broadway plays in a desert setting.  Performances are extremely professional and the productions are equally fantastic.  This is a perfect way to end a road trip of the National Parks of Utah.

David says that he likes the intellectual challenge of solving difficult problems.

Since he began playing Sudoku in earnest, David has ... [Read David Connor full bio]
